1333年の北条氏滅亡後その霊を弔うため、後醍醐天皇の命をうけた足利尊氏公によって、当時小町邸と呼ばれ北条氏歴代執権屋敷跡であるこの地に建立されました。

About Hokai-ji Temple:
Following the fall of the Hojo clan in 1333, Emperor Go-Daigo ordered Ashikaga Takauji to establish this temple to pray for the repose of their souls. It stands on the former grounds of the Hojo regents’ residence, historically known as the Komachi Mansion.
