I visited Ueno Toshogu Shrine to receive the Shoryu-mamori (Rising Dragon Amulet).
This special amulet is quite rare, as it is only offered for three days each month (the 16th to the 18th), coinciding with Tokugawa Ieyasu’s monthly memorial day.
When I got there around 8:30 AM, a line of about 10 visitors had already formed.
Although they appear to prepare a sufficient supply, I suggest arriving early if you plan to get one.

About Ueno Toshogu Shrine
Ueno Toshogu Shrine was established on September 17, 1627. It was built to honor Tokugawa Ieyasu, along with Tenkai Sojo and Todo Takatora as guardian deities. Rebuilt in 1651 by Tokugawa Iemitsu, the shrine has remarkably survived numerous disasters over the centuries, including the Battle of Ueno, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the WWII air raids. Standing strong through it all, the Golden Hall has long served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for people in times of hardship.
About the Shoryu-mamori (Rising Dragon Charm)
This charm is modeled after the rising dragon carving on the shrine’s Karamon Gate. It is blessed for career advancement and extraordinary good luck, drawing upon the power of Lord Ieyasu and the enduring strength of the shrine, which has stood unbroken through countless calamities.
