January 10 is known as “O-Ebisu Day,”
so we visited Hongaku-ji Temple in Kamakura,
home to one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Kamakura and Enoshima.
Ebisu is a deity associated with the sea,
believed to bring good fortune from afar.
Originally worshipped as a god of abundant catches,
his significance later spread to farmers and merchants.
For merchants, he became a god of business prosperity,
and for farmers, a deity of the fields and mountains,
bringing blessings for a good harvest.
As a self-employed couple,
visiting Ebisu is something we never miss. (smile)
